Sixty-Eighth day of School

In Reading today, we discussed the word omniscient as it pertains to a writer's point of view. We distinguished this from the point of view of a typical personal narrative which is written in a first-person perspective/voice.

In Writing, we made our plan for 'what happened next'. We changed procedure slightly, in order to prevent writers from forgetting to include a proper closure to their writing. A closure should not tell what happened next; i.e. it should not be about going home, or going to bed, for example. A closing lets a reader know your story has come ot an end. We reviewed the easiest ways to close a samll moment narrative was to reflect on the happening by relating an emotion or by using a superlative.

In Visual Art, we discussed another element of art: color. We talked about and worked with a color wheel and complementary colors and a little of their science.

Additionally, a question was asked about 'time' and the clock, so we took the opportunity to discuss time. We learned the purpose of the hour and minute hands (tested as part of a measurement unit later in the year).

Sixty-Seventh Day of School

In Writng, we have gone back to narratives. Yesterday we touch and talked our plan for a narrative. Today we worked on sketching the setting (1st pg.) and the happening (2nd pg.).

In Social Science, we continued our comparison of the past and present (tested). In addition to reviewing and reinforcing differences in education, transportation and commerce, we discussed the idea of differences in communication by learning about the Pony Express and mail delivery. Later in this reporting period we will explore differences in education, transportation, and houseing as it relates to geographical location (tested).

Reading Logs are due Thursday.

Apologies: We were unable to move forward with filming today as some important tech pieces have gone missing and will need to be ordered. A new date for filming will be posted soon.

In Writing today, we checked to see if our pieces had all of the requirements to meet the standard for informational texts.

In Health, we wrote reports on car safety.
